Anyone interested in video surveillance... Here's a great resource to building a VERY high quality surveillance system on an Ubuntu box. I found this a great resource (as one of my business operations is SeeGuard Surveillance Systems Inc. - seeguard.com).
This is a great resource for two reasons.
1) Build surveillance systems without investing in excessive OS or software costs. Therefore, it provides installers the ability to provide more competitive costs to clients.
2) Maintain high quality video surveillance systems, with the ability of tweaking or adding customized coding. (As opposed to Closed Source, Zone Minder is released under GPL).
Their packages are well supported: www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Documentation
as is the hardware: http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_hardware
Where is the installation guide? A VERY detailed guide is here: http://www.howtoforge.com/video_surveillance_zoneminder_ubuntu
A great resource!! - Check it out.

Talk about “well supported by the community”!
The forum is here: http://www.zoneminder.com/foru.....ms/
Another visitor just sent this link (it’s easier if you just type the comment right away her – slower if I get an email and then do it for you): http://ubuntuforums.org/showth.....p?t=234135
Update: I just tried “sudo apt-get install zoneminder” in one of my Ubuntu boxes and that worked! – But you’re better advised to build a “stable” system using the howtoforge.com guide!
