I don’t know what to decide but upon installing Ubuntu Linux 12.04 LTS, I was amazed that it only took maybe 3GB of spaces vs a-much-larger chunk with Windows 7. *sigh*

For game performance, I just love the fact that you can Tab-in/Tab-out of Counter-Strike: Source without a hiccup while on Windows, it took much longer.

As of last week, I decided to erase everything and install Ubuntu only for my laptop. Just love the fact that it runs so clean.

I Read this disturbing quote in a windows 8 pitch:

“Modern computing focuses much more on people and apps than on the operating system. These changes in the landscape motivated the most significant changes to Windows.”

Are they saying windows 8 is not about the OS but about all the crap that comes with it?

I am also a Linux user and refuse to look back. Linux Distro’s have came a long ways in the past few years that I have used it. Some are claiming it is getting bloated. To me bloated means to be growing larger with garbage app’s that noone wants or uses. However, I have only seen very little size growth on the install CD. I think there just mad because it isnt what they wanted to happen with the desktop’s. Really, now there gonna complain about a desktop. Go get a different one already. Lets remember, Ctrl + Alt + Del was invented by Windows for a reason.

I believe in the free market. Sometimes the free market means people cooperating voluntarily (not for profit) to achieve some goal. Linux is an example of the free market at work. Volunteers who enjoy writing code (or at least have nothing better to do and do it out of habit) want to construct something beautiful (like a sand castle on a beach). Some people have figured out how to make a living out of Linux. More power to them.
There is also a role for proprietary software. I run Windows XP in virtual box on my better Linux machines so I can use programs like Peachtree accounting (my favorite accounting program).
There is room for Linux and Windows.

Ubuntu 11.10 – terminal – sudo apt-get install gnome-shell

log out and choose the gnome shell, and now you can have over 20 desktops (i guess you can have like 99 or something, but my computer started to go slow on 20) I found it very useful,just use Ctrl+Alt+ arrow up/-down, to find the desktop you want to

My daughter used my desktop with limited memory and less than perfect cooling to watch online TV with Windows. Hard drive temp exceeded 40 degrees C and bad things happened to the drive.

I have Ubuntu on the same system on a second hard drive. She can watch online TV with Ubuntu with no temperature problems.

The two drives had similar specs. Memory usage must be more efficient in Ubuntu.
