Instant Messaging in Ubuntu
[/coolplayer]

This video is a quick primer on how to use Gaim with Ubuntu. If you're not familiar with Gaim, it's an application which enables you to connect to friends and colleagues using the chat/instant messaging protocols, such as MSN, ICQ, IRC and Yahoo, all in one program. The protocols/services handled by Gaim are:

MSN
ICQ
IRC
Yahoo!
Jabber
Gadu-Gadu
Zephyr

Gaim is now called "Pidgin" and you can obtain the install information here: How to install Pidgin 2.0 (former GAIM) . The official page for the (updated messenger) Pidging is found at pidgin.im/pidgin/home/ and it handles these extra messaging protocols/services:

AIM
Bonjour
Gadu-Gadu
Google Talk
Groupwise
ICQ
IRC
MSN
QQ
SILC
SIMPLE
Sametime
XMPP
Yahoo!
Zephyr
