Did I read that title correctly? Yup!
There actually is a guide that allows XP users to make their box look like Ubuntu. Imagine that! 
While us Ubuntu users use the real thing, some Windows users are still stuck in that “theme” mode. (And I mean that in a humourous way!!)
A few lot of my friends are still XP users and I call them “Windows Weenies” as I’ve inherited the “Linux Geek” name. Jokes aside, I was very surprised when one of them sent me a link showing how XP users can mod their systems to look like Ubuntu. For XP (and other version) users, if you need some of your Windows based applications, you can always use Wine: http://www.winehq.org/ and check compatibility of software here: http://appdb.winehq.org/

“People like to modify their OS for self satisfaction. Here are the ways Ubuntu fans can get the Ubuntu mood in their Windows XP based desktop.
Firstly, if you haven’t patch your uxtheme.dll file to enable non-Microsoft release visual style to be loaded in Windows XP, get the patch by Windows X at Softpedia . Run the file, follow the instructions, install, and reboot your computer.
Once you’ve done that, download Ubuntu Visual Style made by FioreSSJ for Windows XP at DeviantArt. Copy appropriate files in the zip file to appropriate folder. As examples:
- Files in Wallpaper folder to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper..
- Files in Cursor folder to C:\Windows\Cursors..
- Files in Fonts folder to C:\Windows\Fonts..

I’ve also seen a mod for WinXP that makes it look like Mac OSX. Can’t remember the name of it, but I used it for a while, and there are plenty of themes available.
Seems like Windows users are always wanting something better, but not actually wanting to change.
i want to change to ubuntu permantly but i still want the things that windows has, like click and load ( progs and so on ) i am not a seasoned computer user as i have only got into it in the past 6 months so still a thicko! i have installed ubuntu on my system several times but i can never find any click and load programs that i want, like a dvd creator, i make videos for friends and so on but i can never convert them for their dvd players, any suggestions? i have to re install windows and reload winavi and nero. if it wasnt for this linux would be permanatly on my system, i am not good at typing command lines every time i want to do something, help. ps avg and avast are very excellent anti virus programmes, i use avg free edition and highly recommend it to anyone as it found stuff that avast missed. thank you steve

Instead of Nero (Windows) you could try k3b (Linux). As for Antivirus, I’ve never needed it, and have yet to encounter a problem. Which winavi product are you using?
